AI Analysis
Limited information: Mixed reports suggest both legitimate police activities and potential scams. However, the majority of comments indicate it's a Met Police number for follow-ups on reported cases or witness support, often not taking incoming calls but leaving messages. A few users report suspicious activities (e.g., harassment, false claims), but these are less frequent and not conclusively linked to the number's primary use.
Likely purpose: Primarily for Met Police follow-ups on reported incidents or witness support. Caution advised due to minority reports of scam attempts.
Most common user complaints
- Harassment with false claims
- Unsolicited calls early in the morning
- Suspicious 'Is this CID?' inquiries (from other numbers, but mentioned in context)

36I was already on the phone so didn’t answer, but they left a voicemail, playing music and sounded like they were grunting in the gym or something. Really weird, went on for a few minutes
Called to say my emergency number went off ... Asked if I'd been in a crash.
Met Police Witness Support. Doesn't take incoming calls but they leave a message with a number to contact your handler. Kept me up to date on the case I was involved with

Definitely the police. I had a call back from The police from this number after I had made a call to 101
Definately MET Police. A call back on a case I reported.
Police. Officer who attended said this number would call.
Follow up on a case I was involved in
Very organised occult gang stalkers. They will even hack your phone so when you try to call the police, the call will go to a member of the gang pretending to be the police.

Police following up on a case I reported. I missed the call and got a text and email telling me to call 101. Called 101 and they knew my name and case details just from my mobile number. They needed more information from me on the case

Got call on Saturday 14 April 2018 claiming I was in a accident. Never had a accident.
This is not a “Police” number. Basically, because Police phones work through a switchboard, outbound calls show up as “Withheld”. If your phone does not accept withheld numbers, a code can be dialled by the caller to generate a “random” local phone number, in order to reach you. There is nothing to say that god number is exclusive to the Police. Whilst calls from this number may genuinely be from the Police, you should still seek to confirm the caller’s identity and you should never use this number to contact the Police.
Follow up after reporting an incident
I did not answer the call as unknown but received a text shortly afterwards asking me to call DC (name given) regarding an incident I witnessed & reported to police. Also rang again from the previous Met. Police number which I had saved while I was out.

I work in security, this is a witness care number, either you have given evidence to a crime or somebody has put you down as a witness to a crime. The caller should be able to give you all the details of the case before you answer any questions. Most of the time they are just calling to give you an update of a plea. You cannot call the number back, but you can call 101 and give your name and they should be able to link it to the necessary CAD number.
It`s a ghost number created to call from a phone number that would normally be shown as `withheld`, so may well be generically used by the police for this purpose, but I don`t know if it is unique to them, or would be used by other organizations who request ghost numbers for this purpose
I got a call on my mobile from this number, and the person calling asked me: "Is this CID?" Now, I don't believe that a police officer would have any reason to call a mobile and ask that question. Surely they would know the name of the person they're trying to reach. But the main reason I am suspecting some kind of fraud is that I have received the same call more than 5 times in the past year or so (from PRIVATE number). Each time, the person only asks "Is this CID?" The first time, I actually talked with the person, who didn't identify himself as a police officer, but instead gave me strange answers when I tried to find out what he wanted. Now I've received the same call from this number (02087804180).
Police Officer called regarding witnessing a crime. He had all details. Was happy to verify and arranged visit as follow up.
Def the police, follow up call about reporting my landlord. Thanks
100% the police: following up on a case that they are investigating on my behalf, all information matches up as does the follow-up conversation when I called them back. This number is not specific to a particular police station - while someone mentions Acton above, mine was Westminster - it's still the police though.
Got a call from this number today saying: "Ray, this is Andy from XXXX Police station. Give me a call back as soon as you get this, 02082476653" My name is not Ray and I have no case with the police of any kind.
This call was a follow-up call from the Met Police after I reported a theft via their 101 non-emergency number. They repeated to me details from my 101 call, so I have no doubt it was the police. I imagine its 'unknown' etc as it comes through their switchboard, I get the same when the wife rings me from work phone.
Witness care unit asking whether I would be able to attent the court to give evidence next week
It is the police. It's a ghost number so it doesn't show up as unknown/no number. Always check and confirm who people are though as there are scams. Scams will ask about credit cards, and want info they can actually benefit from.
Defo the police. This number came up from Croydon police station
Caller says that he is a police officer and vital information needed. Scam or real?
