Was Amex. Judging from comments here it's a call center that services Amex and Barclaycard. I rang Amex back on the number that's on the back of my card and they said they had indeed tried to get in touch with me.

Claims to be Amex or Barclaycard but when I phoned BCard using number on back of my card they had absolutely no idea

This is a freephone number AMEX use if there are concerns on your account. They ask partial ID such as month of birth, or last 3 characters of postcode. They only ask a maximum of three questions - after this you can ask them to tell you the last five digits of your card or about recent card usage to prove it's them. If you're still concerned just phone back in to AMEX saying you've received a call from this number.
