The number appears in recent user generated reports as potentially linked to legitimate American Express calls, but it is also referenced in forums and spam tracking sites with conflicting signals. Overall, it should be treated with caution and not trusted blindly. 1. What the number appears to belong to: Several user reports and listings association suggest it may be a legitimate American Express contact line in some contexts, though some entries flag it as a generic or disputed caller ID. The mix of mentions indicates ambiguity rather than a clearly identified owner. 2. What people say online: Community driven sites show mixed feedback, including reports of harassment or robocalls under this number, and some discussions suggest it can be used by scammers impersonating reputable brands; opinions are inconsistent across sources. 3. Association with spam or scams: There are conflicting signals: some reports imply legitimate customer related calls from a financial institution, while other posts describe scam or harassing activity associated with similar numbers. The ambiguity means it cannot be conclusively labeled as consistently malicious. 4. Public exposure or leakage: The number appears in multiple public facing scam and caller ID databases and discussion boards, indicating it is exposed in public discussions. The presence across several public platforms suggests it is publicly visible. 5. Advice on answering or calling back: Given mixed signals and reports of impersonation risk, answering or calling back is not clearly safe. Exercise caution, verify through official channels, and avoid sharing personal information if contacted unexpectedly. Note: If reliable, up to date, and exact verification for this precise number is required, a dedicated live lookup from trusted telecom and anti scam databases would be needed.

Called saying an Amex was opened in my name within the last two weeks in New York on a gun website trying to purchase firearms. Tried to connect me with NY FBI, I hung up. However, they will try to give you a case number etc. I put a freeze on all three credit bureaus just to be on the safe side.

Received a call claim from American Express fraud department. There's a transaction of some amount today and to verify it is you. I never owned a card with AE, googled the number and find out the same fraud. Here's another rating to add to the story.

They called me using the real AMEX number and told me that there was an illegal charge from China on a AMEX card I own. I did not own the type of AMEX card they specified, and they told me it was created recently (last month). They told me the card was used to buy guns, which was illegal and that I needed to file a report with the Shanghai police (even though I am not in china). They “verified” my information, meaning they had my full name and an address I had not lived in for years. They said I needed to file this report with the Shanghai police otherwise I may be detained for a felony. They asked if I needed help filing this report, which is when I requested to call back from my phone instead of proceeding. They acted as if they were legit until the last second, providing me with an employee ID. I called AMEX and they checked my accounts, no new cards had been opened, and they confirmed this was a scam call.

Scan call about an illegal transaction of $11,000 in Xiamen, China by someone which committed a identify theft. They got my name, address, and when asked provided a full 15-digit credit card# which AE or any other banks would never surrender. AE verified that the provided card# does not exist.
