How the NoCall community spam database works

NoCall does not guess which numbers are spam: the community tells it. Each report comes from someone who received a call and decided to warn others. Together they add up to 0 community reports about 1 494 numbers flagged as spam.

How a number gets reported

On the website you do not need an account to report a number. In the app, reporting a number also blocks it on your own phone.

  1. Someone receives an unwanted call or text.
  2. They report the number in the NoCall app or on the number page of nocall.io.
  3. They choose a category and, if they want, add a short comment about what happened.
  4. The report is reviewed before it is added to the public database.

Report categories

  • Telemarketing: Sales calls about phone, energy, insurance and other offers.
  • Scam: Calls that impersonate banks, public bodies or delivery companies to steal money or data.
  • Debt collection: Repeated calls from collection agencies.
  • Survey: Automated or unsolicited survey calls.
  • Harassment: Repeated calls meant to intimidate or bother you.
  • Spam and other: Generic unwanted calls that do not fit the categories above.

What a number page shows

Each reported number has its own page with a risk level (low, medium, high or critical), the main category, the reports received and the comments from the community. NoCall can also show a short automatic summary of what people say in the comments.

Comments are published after moderation and appear as anonymous or under the name the author chooses. Signed-in app users can mark comments as helpful.

From a report to every phone

Once reports are part of the database, every phone with NoCall receives them on its next sync. That is how one person's report helps protect everyone else.

A report describes the experience of the people who received the call. If you think a number was reported by mistake, read its comments before you decide whether to answer.
