3Absa does not acknowledge the number and deny the sms came from Absa. Google search proved it is an Absa branch. Watloo branch. I received an apologetic sms afterwards. Except the sms above it. Is from Absa. So I will advice anyone to be safe. Don't give your details. Yes I contacted Absa fraud department as it would mean if there is a credit card someone was committing fraud on my name. And they said the sms did not originate from Absa. While the next apologetic sms proved Absa is definitely involved. Even if it is one employee within the bank. So word of the wise. Stay safe.
Scammer alert!!! Received an sms referring me to "ABSA" telling me about the new credit card I got. Except I never applied for one. Let me clarify. It is not an ABSA number. Absa said not their number and it is fraudulent.
I received an SMS from 0279801361935, allegedly from ABSA saying that my Visa card had been declined for an in-shop purchase. I called this number, and the usual ABSA keypad options were given. I hung up and called the ABSA Fraud Line and was informed that 0861462273 was not an ABSA number. It seems likely that this number is used for fraud.
