IBAN checker: validate an account number and its bank
Asked to transfer money to an account you do not know? Paste the IBAN and we check that it is valid, which country it is from and, for Spanish IBANs, which bank. The check runs in your browser. Note: a valid IBAN does not tell you who owns the account.
How to use it
- Copy the IBAN from the message, the invoice or the ad and paste it. Spaces do not matter.
- Press “Check the IBAN”. We check the country, the length and the check digits and, for Spanish IBANs, the bank.
- If the bank or the country does not match what you were told, do not make the transfer.

What it covers
Validates IBANs of every country in the SWIFT IBAN Registry. The bank is shown for Spanish IBANs, from the Bank of Spain register of institutions; for Spanish IBANs we also check the account's two national check digits.
The check runs entirely in your browser: the IBAN is not sent to NoCall or third parties and it is not stored. We only record that a check was run and its general result (valid or the kind of error).
Frequently asked questions
Does a valid IBAN mean the account belongs to the person they say?
No. It only means the number is well formed. Nobody but the bank can tell you the owner, and scammers use real accounts in their own name or other people's.
How do I know which bank a Spanish IBAN belongs to?
From the four digits after “ES” and the two check digits: that is the bank code. For example, in ES12 0049 … the code 0049 is Banco Santander's.
Is it safe to paste my IBAN here?
Yes: the check runs in your browser and the IBAN is not sent to any server. In any case, an IBAN is not a secret: it is used to receive money, not to take it out.
I am asked to pay into an IBAN from another country. Is that normal?
For purchases from private sellers or local companies, it is not usual. Many rental, car or pet scams ask for transfers to foreign accounts to make the money harder to recover.
