Numbers reported as debt collection in Spain
Debt-collection calls come from recovery firms or financial institutions demanding payment for overdue bills, loans, or services. Some are legitimate, but others use aggressive tactics or target the wrong person.
Debt-collection calls come from recovery agencies and lenders chasing unpaid bills, loans or instalments. The practice is regulated: the company must identify itself, cannot call at unreasonable hours or reach your workplace or family, and is forbidden from threatening or applying abusive pressure. A significant share of these calls reach the wrong person because of database errors or reassigned numbers. If you do not recognise the debt, ask in writing for a breakdown of the amount and the original creditor; if the calls are persistent or intimidating, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency.
