Some are legitimate and anonymous, but others are really a pretext to harvest personal data or to slip in a sales pitch at the end. A genuine survey will never ask for banking details, passwords or your full ID number. Before answering, ask which company is running the study and how your answers will be used; if you do not get a clear reply, the safest move is to decline and hang up.
