How NoCall works on Android: Caller ID & spam app with an on-device database
Android lets you choose one app as your Caller ID & spam app. That app is asked about every incoming call before it reaches you. When you pick NoCall for that role, each call is checked against the NoCall spam database stored on your phone.
How call screening works
When a call arrives, Android passes the number to NoCall. NoCall looks it up in its local database, so the decision is made on the phone and works offline. If the number has been reported, NoCall warns you or, with Pro, rejects the call.
NoCall does not replace your Phone app: you keep your usual dialer and contacts.
How to set it up
- Install NoCall from Google Play (Android 10 or later), open it and sign in.
- When the app asks, set NoCall as your Caller ID & spam app.
- Allow notifications, so NoCall can show the spam warning during a call.
- Sync the spam database from the app.
Warn or reject: Free and Pro
- Free: The call still rings, and NoCall shows a notification telling you the number has been reported as spam.
- Pro: Calls from known spam numbers can be rejected automatically before they ring. They still appear in the app history.
- Pro: unverified calls: You can also silence calls whose caller ID failed the carrier's verification.
What about SMS on Android?
NoCall on Android does not read your inbox and does not filter texts automatically. If a text looks suspicious, search the sender's number on NoCall before you reply or open any link.
