“It started off with someone from "Standard Bank" offering me a disability cover for R300'000.00, just after 18h00 in the evening (INDICATOR - who calls at night to offer you life cover). She explained the policy to me in my home language and then read out my ID, Address and thanked me for my long history with Standard Bank (INDICATOR - I did not choose to be addressed in my home language). Then followed by 1st SMS that I must confirm three debit orders. The last amount was exactly the amount that I swiped at a shop. The debit orders were dated 20th of June(INDICATOR - who sets up a debit order before pay day). The 2nd SMS said there was £433-000 of unclaimed and I should email [email protected] for info. The last straw was the automated call from 080 000 5559. I didn't even bother to entertain it. Clearly, this is someone who has my personal information. The number is not from Standard Bank. Please be wide awake out there.”

“This is a phising scam where they pretend to be Standard Bank and try and get you to confirm your pin information. They already know what your bank account details are and you are last few transactions so they definitely have inside info, but they need your pin in order to and neccessary your account. Don't respond and don't answer the call”

“Just receive a call in the middle of the night from this number posing as Standard Bank. Initially they sent me SMS stating discrepancy on my account luckily I'm doing internet banking & I checked all my accounts and they are fine. By the time they call I ignored their call and checked their status here. Thanks God I didn't wasted my time with them”

“Honestly it is mostly unsettling for me that these people make contact after you have actually used your card! Standard Bank needs to find out who has access to this information, or block this kind of info from getting out! Im seriously looking at other banks now because I cannot take chances with this kind of info.”

“Missed the call, received an sms with all the recent transcations and it prompted me to respond with a Y if it was me. I typed in the Y but didn't send the responce i then listened to the voice message. Everthing about it seemed stranged especially the sms”
